Use This Homework Tracker Printable to Improve Your Time Management!
A homework tracker printable is a PDF document featuring a task, due date, estimated time, time spent and checklist column to encourage students to stay on top of their homework and better manage their time. It can be placed at the front of a binder or diary to remind students to do their homework and give a quick overview of everything that needs to be completed.
How to use a homework tracker printable
A printable homework tracker is very simple to use. Simply download and print one off and start filling out the homework you have to complete in the rows.
You can find the one I designed here.
My printable homework tracker comes with two options. You can either track your homework by subject or by week. There are benefits to both options and it is personal preference for which one is better.
Tracking your homework by subject
Tracking your homework by subject can be useful as it groups all of the homework you need to do for one subject all together and gives you a nice overview of everything you need to complete for that. This works well if you have a binder separated with dividers by subjects where you can print out a homework tracker for each subject. You can organise each section so the homework tracker is placed in front of all of your other notes/hand out sheets. The benefit of this option is that each homework tracker will last for a long time (20 pieces of homework) before you need to print a new sheet out (unless you get an exorbitant amount of homework).
Tracking your homework by week
The other option is to track your homework by week. This option works well if you only want to print off one homework tracker at a time, however you will need to replace it each week. I like this option as well because it gives me an overview of everything I should complete during the week so I don’t have any overflow homework for the next week. I suggest placing this printable at the front of your binder, in front of all of your school work so every time you open your binder it acts as a reminder of what homework you have to do. It is also easier to access at the front of your binder/workbook when you need to fill out a row when you are assigned homework.
Both of the homework tracker options have 20 homework rows per week and also have a check mark column so you can tick every task off once you have completed it! Also at the top of the page there is a section to write the subject/week, term and year.
I have also used a minimalistic design to lower printing costs and the amount of ink required to print it compared to a colourful design. The title lends itself well to customisation as it is in a block letter unfilled font so it can be coloured in to make the printable homework tracker prettier and more personal.
How a homework tracker printable can improve time management
My homework tracker printable was designed with the intention of helping students improve their time management. This was achieved by adding an estimated time to complete the task column and a column to write down the actual amount of time a task took to complete.
This is really helpful as it encourages you to set a time frame to complete a task and better schedule your time to complete the homework as you will have a better idea of how long it will take. For example, you might write that your English homework will take 20 minutes so you can schedule 20 minutes for English homework into your diary or on your printable daily schedule planner.
The time spent column acts as a reflection and helps you develop your time management skills by giving you a more realistic time frame to work off next time when you do a similar task.
For example, if you wrote 30 minutes in the estimated time column for a maths homework exercise but it actually took 40 minutes to complete, next time you will be able to set aside 40 minutes in your schedule for maths homework and thus be able to manage your time better and overcome the planning fallacy (when you set aside too little time to complete tasks).
Both of these time management columns also give you a better idea of how much time you put into a subject and what results you get from the amount of time you put in. For example, from your homework tracker you might realise that you are putting in only 1 hour of work into science each week and you are getting a B+ on average. The homework tracker will highlight that you need to put more time into science to get better grades. If you would also like to track your grades I suggest checking out my grade tracker printable here.
